The 27 year old intern
Thought about the title for this post for a while but couldn't come up with a better title than the 27 year old intern. I think is a little awkward to be 27 and be an intern and be really really happy about it. I believe in following my passion before money and this is why I decided to give up my old job which was eating my soul away little by little and fully engage myself in what I love which is broadcast journalism and production. I have been at this internship for 2 weeks now and I feel blessed every morning I'm going in. I wake up early and ready to work. I have never felt like this about any other job before. I've had previous jobs and internships but never like this one. I am learning hands on exactly what I want to do as my career and that makes me excited.
I've always been a person to follow my heart first then my mind but the situation that really made me make this choice was two months ago, I was in the HR office of my old job when I was speaking to this man about work related stuff and he mentioned that he was retiring in a few months. He said, "I did my time and it will be 30 years in June", "I was like wow! what are you going to do now?" he said, "I'm going to do some traveling, learn a new language and learn how to play the guitar." All I was thinking was....wow you waited 30 years to do these things?!?!?!?! but of course I just smile and said congrats. The way he said, "I did my time" was like he was being release from prison. I have respect for individuals who go to a job they dislike or hate to handle responsibilities but I just had to find a way around that because I couldn't do it. I could not stand myself doing a job that I couldn't give it my all and I wouldn't want to be that person, its not me.
One thing I do know is that it takes real guts to abandoned good paychecks and go for what you love to do and fully engage yourself in that. I know exactly the career I want and I won't stop until I get there. We are never too old to learn and never too old to start from 0 especially if we are going the right direction. I truly believe in myself and I only want to spend time in doing things I can proud off one day.
***Be very afraid of the woman who knows what she wants and is getting trained to get it :)
